How do you print onto plastic cards?
It depends on the product. Plastic cards are printed using litho or digital print onto a paperboard sheet, with multiple cards on a single sheet. Each sheet is then laminated to seal the print, give it the desired matt or gloss finish, and protect it from wear. Screen printed features such as signature strips are applied before the cards pass through a punch that cuts out the final card. Depending on the print process chosen, personalisation such as names, barcodes or numbering can be applied during digital printing or at our dedicated secure site in Skelmersdale.
What is a CR80 card?
CR80 is the international standard card size, 85.6mm x 54mm, the same dimensions as a bank card. It fits standard wallets, card readers and printers, which is why it is the default choice for most schemes.
What finishes can be applied?
Options include matt or gloss lamination, spot UV, foil blocking and embossing, which are typically used to signal premium tiers within a scheme.
Are plastic cards recyclable at the end of their life?
Recycled PVC and paperboard options are designed with end of life in mind. Standard PVC is harder to recycle through household collection, which is why we usually recommend a recycled or paperboard alternative where the application allows.
